What is the extra wire for on my Hardy Scale cable?

The cable coming out my ANYWEIGH bench or floor scale has an extra wire which is not called out in the manual. All load cell wires are identified, but this extra, heavier gauge wire is not. Should this wire be terminated anywhere or just capped off?

That "extra" wire is the shield wire. The color can vary from lot to lot and the typical colors are clear, yellow, or orange. The shield is landed in the shield connector location, or on the ground screw/lug on the back of the unit, depending on the weight controller model being used.
