What is the temperature range of the Advantage type load cells?

Question

What is the temperature range of the Hardy Advantage Series load cells?

Answer

The Advantage and Advantage Lite load sensor operating range is -40C to +80C. The compensated range is -10C to +40C. This means the load sensors will survive to -40C, but colder than -10C (or warmer than +4OC) would have an unpredictable linearity error. The error when you are in the compensated range is calculated by a percentage of full scale and per degree of change. With testing we find the error does increase outside this range and it helps to calibrate the scale at the operating temperature. It is not advised to operate the scale outside the operating range of the load sensors.

Within the compensated temperature range, the formula is: 0.0012% of rated output X degree C change

Outside of the compensated range there isn't a formula.

Example: A 450 lb load cell with an in-range temperature change of 20 degrees C would produce an error of +/- 0.108 lbs. (0.000012 X 450 X Degrees of change in Celsius) This formula will work using kilograms as well.

The recommendation in regions colder than the -10C lower compensated range limit is to wrap the load points, cable if they are subject to movement, with heat tape as they would any pipes attached to the scale.  In areas of high temperature using heat shields and possibly blowing cool air across the load cell can help.  We can supply Teflon cable to help with the higher temperature load points.  This would increase the Advantage line of load cells top temperature range to 90C.
